How to Set Up Auto Reply on Your Facebook Page (Messenger and Comments)

Facebook Page auto replies come in two flavours: the built-in automated responses in Meta Business Suite, and keyword automations that reply to post comments and send the commenter a private Messenger message. This guide covers both — what each one does, how to set it up, and when you need the second.

What counts as a Facebook auto reply?

A Facebook auto reply is a message your Page sends automatically, without anyone typing it. It can answer a new Messenger conversation, reply to a message that contains a certain word, or respond to someone who commented on one of your posts. The first kind is built into Facebook; the comment kind needs a tool connected through Meta's official API.

Option 1: Meta Business Suite automated responses

Meta Business Suite includes basic Messenger automations for every Facebook Page. To find them, open Meta Business Suite, go to Inbox, and open Automations. The common ones are:

• Instant reply — a greeting sent the first time someone messages your Page.
• Away message — a reply sent when you've marked yourself as away or outside business hours.
• Frequently asked questions — suggested questions people can tap, each with a saved answer.

Meta changes menu names from time to time, so if you don't see these exact labels, look for the automation or lightning-bolt icon in the Inbox.

These are a good starting point for answering new Messenger conversations. What they don't do is react to the comments on your posts — which is where most of a Page's engagement happens.

Option 2: Comment auto replies with a private Messenger DM

When you post "Comment GUIDE and I'll send it to you," dozens of people comment, and each one is waiting for a reply. A comment automation handles that for you:

1. Connect your Facebook Page with Facebook Login — no password sharing.
2. Create a rule and choose the trigger: every comment, or only comments containing a keyword such as GUIDE, PRICE or LINK. You can limit it to one post or apply it to all of them.
3. Write the public reply Zaprep posts under the comment, e.g. "Sent! Check your messages."
4. Write the Messenger DM Zaprep sends privately to the commenter — with a button or link to what you promised.
